When I was in New York over the weekend, my cousin and I found a man selling these awesome prints in red, white and blue like Obama's HOPE poster. They have pictures and quotations of writers, physicists, singers, actors, characters, etc. They were awesome. We each bought 5 prints. One of mine is of Jane Austen. The quotation directly below is the one on my print. I've listed a few other quotations of Austen's that I think are great as well and will attach a picture of my collage when I get it done. Enjoy!
The person, be it gentleman or lady, who has not pleasure in a good novel, must be intolerably stupid. **My thoughts just highlight intolerably stupid.
If I loved you less, I might be able to talk about it more. **Yikes, how true is this!? Why is it so hard to tell someone how you feel about them?
Woman is fine for her own satisfaction alone. No man will admire her the more, no woman will like her the better for it. Neatness and fashion are enough for the former, and a something of shabbiness or impropriety will be most endearing to the latter. **Love yourself and others will love you. Be someone else and others might, maybe, like you, but you won't be happy.
I do not want people to be very agreeable, as it saves me the trouble of liking them a great deal. **I just find this funny. I tend to love people.
For what do we live, but to make sport for our neighbors and laugh at them in our turn? **This is mean, however, comparing ourselves to others is human nature. Why not have a little fun with it?
A lady's imagination is very rapid; it jumps from admiration to love, from love to matrimony in a moment. **This is even over-exaggerated with girls who read--who doesn't dream that any guy could be the Mr. Darcy to her Elizabeth, or in my case, the Henry to my Clare?
To be fond of dancing was a certain step towards falling in love. **I'd add singing loudly to this as well.
